Job Description
Mission Statement
- Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison), Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R), and Consolidated Edison Transmission (CET) employees are required to follow health, safety, and environmental policies, EEO, Standards of Business Conduct, and all other applicable company policy and procedures. We all share a responsibility to advance the company’s mission by excelling at our three corporate priorities – safety of our people and the public, operational excellence in all that we do, and ensuring the best possible customer experience.
Core Responsibilities
As the adoption for electrification increases rapidly across the transportation, building, and heating spaces, the distribution grid will need to similarly evolve to accommodate these energy demands and meet customer expectations. The Senior Specialist in the Distribution System Innovative Planning and Analytics (DPA) group will help steer the development of a comprehensive, proactive, and risk-adjusted distribution load relief planning strategy through analytics to address future electrification and provide insight to Clean Energy Solutions (CES) programs on the value and opportunity of capital deferment.
The candidate will assist in collecting data across energy efficiency, demand management, and electrification programs as well as other sources to help calculate and communicate the effect of these resources on the electric, gas, and steam distribution systems.
The Senior Specialist will be responsible for critical tasks such as capital planning design, capital cost deferment analytics, forecasting and modeling, key coordination efforts across various organizations, and support the communication and engagement with internal and external stakeholders including rate case submittals.
Develop proactive planning techniques that will enable a nimble distribution grid to support electrification policy goals, prioritize high-value ''no-regrets'' grid upgrades, while being efficient for longer term consumer needs.
Work closely with the E-mobility and Forecasting teams to understand how transportation electrification adoption is modeled, development of load forecasts, and the system impacts.
Help coordination between Engineering teams to develop a new Proactive Planning framework for analysis and implementation.
Help drive coordination amongst the Energy Efficiency, Demand Management, Storage, EV, and DG teams to determine best pricing signals, programs, and/or use cases to incentive DER developers to interconnect in identified areas of need while providing value to the Company, developer, and rate payer.
Coordinate with Transmission Planning on renewable resource adequacy needs to ensure DER use cases are designed with maximum value to both the distribution systems, as well as firming renewable energy generation.
By using probabilistic forecasting models, help perform detailed studies on electrification growth impact on the distribution grid (network and non-network) to identify preliminary areas of concern and provide innovative solutions that utilize DER assets to deliver the lowest cost long-term solutions.
Create processes to regularly update CES programs on the total potential value of flexible demand management strategies to mitigate or defer the need of system reinforcements.
Develop Peak-Day 24-hour forecasts for all load areas to anticipate changes system delivery needs caused by increased transportation, building, and heating electrification.
Help drive coordination amongst the Energy Efficiency, Demand Management, Storage, EV, and DG teams to provide system impact forecasting to Commodity Forecasting as needed.
Engage with regulators, and support the reporting requirements of DPA objectives to New York Public Service Commission
Perform any tasks related to authoring white papers, rate case filings and other regulatory documentation.
Support DPA group on presentations, workshops, and seminars for internal and external stakeholders
Commit to the ideals of developing a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers (both internal and external) and improve value for all our stakeholders.
